Howlin' Fun Time at PAL and Falmouth Dog Park

Beautiful weather and colorful costumes had everyone smiling last Sunday, October 23, at a "Howlin' Good Time."
Co-hosted by PAL of Cape Cod and the Falmouth Dog Park, this fun event featured a parade of costumed pups and people, contests and prizes, canine CPR demonstration, nail clipping services, and after-party with a raffle for a BMX bike and howlin' good refreshments!

Thanks to the wonderful dogs, individuals, and businesses who participated and donated time, products, and services to support PAL's Youth Programs and the Falmouth Dog Park!

Falmouth Dog Park to host “A Howlin’ Good Time” Sunday, October 23rd at 2 pm

The Falmouth Dog park will host “A Howlin’ Good Time” for both humans and canines on Sunday, October 23 from 2:00 – 3:30 P.M. The afternoon is filled with Halloween costume contests, educational, and canine health events, along with entertainment by the Falmouth Fiddlers. The public is invited to join in the fun and to visit Falmouth’s beautiful, first dog park, which opened in May of this year. A donation of $5 per family is suggested.  Proceeds will be shared by PAL of Cape Cod and the Dog Park.

“A Howlin’ Good Time” activities begin at 2:00 P.M. with a costume competition. Everyone will gather down the street at PAL (Police Athletic League), where the Falmouth Fiddlers will lead the parade of participants in a grand march down to the sidewalk to the park.

The costume competition should be intense, as there are great prizes at stake, including everything from gift certificates and dinners, to dog treats and dog grooming. Opening the competition will be the Pairs competition, with a combination of a dog and a person, two dogs or two people competing for one of three places. Next will follow the Funniest Costume Competition; entrants can be either a dog or person in costume competing for one of the three prizes. Finally entries into the Best Character from a Book will take center ring. Again, the character can be a human or a dog! And the top three will win prizes.

Following the costume competition, Dr. Lilan Hauser, Chief of Staff of the Falmouth Animal Hospital, will demonstrate how to perform CPR on a dog in an emergency.

Throughout the entire event, Lori Tynan, owner of East Falmouth's new pet grooming business, Snip N' Clip, will be on hand to offer a nail spa for dogs for a reduced rate of $4, which will be donated to the Falmouth Dog Park. This is a perfect chance to get your dog's nails the right length using a new sanding technique while supporting the Falmouth Dog Park.

Enter our $5 dollar raffle for five chances to win a 20" Schwinn TJ Lavin BMX Bike! For every extra dollar, we'll give you two more tickets/chances to win!

Participants will close out the fun back at the PAL facility for treats and more music until 3:30 P.M.

Note: Please do not park on the road. Ample parking is available at both the Falmouth Dog Park and at PAL, both located on the north side of Brick Kiln Road between Gifford Street and Sandwich Road.

Construction Update

Today is really exciting! We are actually placing reclaim (ground up asphalt) all over the earth in the location of the park. This is the beginning of the real formation of the park. I met early today with Gary Botelho and Brian Dale to select the last of the trees that must be removed to make way for the handicap parking. We will be able to move three of the six of them to other locations. After the reclaim is delivered, spread and rolled, the driveway and parking as well as the fence can start, and the trench will be dug for the frostfree line for the bubblers. This will all happen late this week!

Stay tuned for more updates! And thank you, thank you, thank you to Gary and George Botelho, to Chris Lynch of Lawrence Lynch and to Brian and Pat Dale for making this all happen to this point!
